In order to file a prior authorization, many insurance companies want the first start date and a discontinue date. We need to have an option to choose between controlled substances and non-controlled substances. Allscripts only allow for a 12-month history which does not fulfill what the PA is asking for. To go through the discontinued meds (which aren't even in chronological order) is very time-consuming and inefficient. Given the current opioid crisis, I would think there would be an interest in keeping track of start and stop dates on medications.
The Surescripts Drug History service is restricted to 12 months and a longer request is not currently an option. Previous Medications on the patient chart are in chronological order and show both start and stop date.
